Do people really still use cloth diapers?

Yes! As a matter of fact, cloth diapering has become the latest parenting trend in WNY mostly in part due to environmentally conscious parents.

Plus, all the new choices in cloth diapers have made it as easy to use cloth diapers as it is to use disposable diapers.

Heck in our opinion cloth diapering is even easier than using disposable diapers because you don't have to keep buying more diapers and wipes!

Something’s To Think About...

A diaper will be in contact with your baby's skin 24 hours a day for the next 2 to 3 years; therefore the diapering choice that you make is an important one.

Many people do not realize that a baby's skin is 5 times thinner and much more porous that an adult's. A large percentage of the products we put on our skin are directly absorbed into the bloodstream. Considering that single-use diapers (of all brands) have approximately 60 known chemicals in them, the consequences can be staggering to a child, when a series of chemical filled disposable diapers are held in close proximity to the skin much of the time moistened!

We here at Bebe Wamu believe that having cotton against a child's skin is much healthier (not to mention more comfortable) than the paper, plastic and chemicals in single-use diapers. Plus, cloth diapering has come a long way over the past several years making cloth diapering your baby as simple as any single-use diaper on the market today!

 How Many Cloth Diapers Do I Need?

This question is best answered by how diapers does your baby go through a day and how many days do you want to go between doing diaper laundry? If your baby has not arrived yet, keep in mind that a newborn can easily go through ten to fifteen diapers in one day, so we recommend purchasing somewhere between 10-15 cloth diapers in the newborn or small sizes. However, an older baby doesn't need quite as many diapers, but you should still plan for 8 diaper changes a day and an overnight solution. Once you've picked out your diapers, don't forget to get cloth baby wipes and, if you have an older baby, a Diaper Sprayer is a must-have!

What Does Everyone Else Buy?

Our best selling newborn cloth diaper diapering system is the Bebe Wamu Infant and Cover Pre-Fold kit or one of the following One-Size Diaper brands: bumGenius, Happy Heiny, FuzziBunz. 

For an older baby the One-Size Diapers mentioned above tend to lead the race, closely followed by FuzziBunz Perfect Sized diapers in Medium.

What About Overnight Diapering?

Most parents are hesitant to cloth diaper at night and we can understand why, with disposable diapers that leak at night, who would really think that a cloth diaper would hold all night long. Well, cloth diapers are actually better for overnight diapering because they do hold more based on how you customize them!

Our personal tried and true overnight cloth diapering system is a pocket style diaper such as bumGenius, Happy Heiny, or FuzziBunz, with the microfiber insert that comes with the diaper and an additional pre-fold used as a doubler. This will keep your baby dry overnight and personally keeps our toddler dry for sleeping stretches of 12-hours!
